Wind-damaged shingles on a residential roof after a storm

Storm Damage Repair in Pittsburgh: Roofs, Siding & Insurance Claims

Wind, hail, and fallen-tree damage repaired, documented, and supported through your insurance claim.

Ireland Contracting repairs storm damage to roofs, siding, gutters, and soffit and fascia across Pittsburgh and Western PA. When wind, hail, or a fallen limb opens your home to the weather, we tarp and secure it the same day during business hours, inspect the whole exterior for free, document every piece of damage with photos, and meet your insurance adjuster on site. We have been a local, licensed contractor (PA #026195) working out of Glenshaw since 1994, so we are still here long after the storm has passed.

Storm damage is rarely limited to the spot you can see from the yard. A gust that tears off a few shingles has usually loosened the seal on the courses around them, a limb that dents a gutter often cracked the fascia behind it, and hail that marks the siding has almost always bruised the shingles above it too. That is why we inspect the roof, siding, gutters, soffit and fascia, and roof penetrations on every storm call, not just the area you called about. Your claim should cover all of the damage the storm caused, and the adjuster can only approve what is documented.

First, stop the water. If the roof is open or actively leaking, we prioritize it: during business hours our crew can usually be out the same day to tarp and secure the damaged area before rain reaches the decking, insulation, and ceilings. We don't run an after-hours crew. If a storm hits overnight or on a weekend, call first thing in the morning and we'll get you on the list ahead of routine work. Most homeowners policies expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, and a professional tarp with photos is the record that you did.

Then, document everything. We photograph and measure wind-lifted, creased, and missing shingles, hail bruising and granule loss, damaged flashing and vents, cracked or dislodged siding panels, dented gutters and downspouts, and torn soffit and fascia. You get those photos and an itemized written estimate, which is what the adjuster will compare against their own inspection.

Meeting the adjuster: when your insurance company schedules an inspection, we can be on the roof with the adjuster to point out the damage we found. Shingle creasing from wind and hail bruising are easy to miss from the ground and easy to dispute without someone walking the roof. You file and own the claim with your insurer; our job is to make sure the damage is accurately documented and that the repair scope matches what the storm actually did.

Repair or replace: a storm doesn't automatically mean a new roof. If the damage is limited to a section and the rest of the roof is sound, we repair it with matching materials and tell you so. If the damage is widespread, or the adjuster approves a full replacement, we install it with the same Owens Corning systems and workmanship as any other roof we put on. We repair asphalt shingle, slate, and rubber (EPDM) roofs. We don't work on metal roofs.

Storms, storm chasers, and Pittsburgh homes

Western Pennsylvania's damaging weather comes in a few familiar forms: summer thunderstorms with straight-line winds that peel back shingles and siding, hail that bruises the shingle surface without leaving an obvious leak, and the region's mature trees dropping limbs on roofs, gutters, and decks. Older homes in the North Hills and South Hills often have original fascia and aging shingles that let go first, and steep wooded lots put more trees within reach of the house.

Every big storm also brings out-of-town crews knocking on doors. Before you sign anything, check that the contractor holds a Pennsylvania Home Improvement Contractor registration (you can look it up on the Attorney General's site), has a local address and phone number, and will still be around to honor a warranty. Pennsylvania's Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act gives you three business days to cancel a home improvement contract, and any offer to "cover" or waive your insurance deductible is a red flag. We are registered as PA #026195 and have worked from the same Glenshaw headquarters for over 30 years.

Storm Damage FAQs

What should I do right after a storm damages my roof?

Stay safe first: keep clear of downed lines and don't climb onto a wet or damaged roof. Take photos of the damage and anything that fell, move valuables away from leaks, and call us to tarp and secure the roof. Then notify your insurance company and keep receipts for any emergency work.

How fast can you tarp my roof after a storm?

During business hours we can usually be out the same day to tarp and secure an open or leaking roof. We don't run an after-hours crew, so if damage happens overnight or on a weekend, call first thing in the morning and we'll put you ahead of routine work.

Does homeowners insurance cover storm damage to my roof?

Most homeowners policies cover sudden damage from wind, hail, and falling trees or limbs. Wear, age, and long-term leaks usually aren't covered. Coverage depends on your specific policy and deductible, so check with your insurer; we document the damage so the claim reflects what the storm actually did.

Will you help with my insurance claim?

Yes. We inspect and photograph the damage, give you an itemized written estimate, and meet your adjuster on site to point out what we found. You file the claim and deal with your insurer directly; we make sure the damage is accurately documented.

How can I tell if hail damaged my roof?

Hail damage is hard to see from the ground. Look for dented gutters, downspouts, and vents, dings on siding or window trim, and heavy shingle granules in the gutters or at the bottom of downspouts. On the roof, hail leaves dark bruises where granules were knocked off. A free inspection is the reliable way to know.

Does storm damage mean I need a new roof?

Not always. If the damage is limited and the rest of the roof is in good shape, a repair is the right call. If the damage is widespread or the roof was already near the end of its life, replacement is usually the better value. We tell you honestly which one you need.

How do I avoid storm chasers?

Check for a Pennsylvania Home Improvement Contractor registration, a local address, and local reviews. Be wary of anyone who pressures you to sign on the spot or offers to cover your deductible. Pennsylvania law gives you three business days to cancel a home improvement contract.

Do you repair storm damage to siding and gutters too?

Yes. We repair and replace storm-damaged siding panels, gutters and downspouts, and soffit and fascia, and we inspect all of them on every storm call so they're included in your documentation.
