A streetcar suburb that kept growing
Bethel Park grew up along the Pittsburgh Railways interurban lines in the early twentieth century, became a borough in 1949, and has been adding houses in every decade since. Today it is one of the largest communities in the South Hills, the T light rail still runs through it, and its housing stock is correspondingly varied: about 42 percent built between 1940 and 1969, with substantial additions through the 1970s and 80s and roughly 1,500 homes predating 1940.
